Wells Fargo Grants Funds for 'Families & Money'

Pamela Tanner, Wells Fargo Brevard Branch Manager, looks over Wells Fargo grant details with Dick Benson, United Way of Transylvania County Board Member and grants committee leader.

On May 12, Wells Fargo granted $6,000 to United Way of Transylvania County to fund the ‘Families & Money’ collaborative program.

The Families & Money program is a United Way of Transylvania County collaborative effort presented by OnTrack Financial Education & Counseling (OnTrack WNC) and Western Carolina Community Action (WCCA). Families & Money’s goal is to provide financial literacy education and counseling to adults and children in Transylvania County.

“This Wells Fargo grant helps ensure that United Way of Transylvania County will be able to continue funding Families & Money OnTrack WNC,” said Celeste Collins, Executive Director of OnTrack WNC.

“It’s wonderful when a financial institution supports financial literacy on a grass-roots level.”

Adult participants attend education classes and receive individual credit reports, scores and reviews. Participants learn fundamentals of money management including how to improve credit scores, and set aside money for non-monthly or unexpected expenses.

Youth participants at Transylvania County Schools and Brevard Academy learn financial concepts in an age-appropriate manner. The focus is on learning how to make wise choices with and about money.

“Wells Fargo is proud to present United Way of Transylvania County with a grant to support its financial education program for local residents,” said Pamela Tanner, Wells Fargo branch manager.

“Financial literacy is a cornerstone to a successful financial future, and Wells Fargo is committed to providing the resources throughout our community to help everyone obtain this success.”

Other entities formally participating in the collaborative are Transylvania County Schools, The Haven, SAFE of Transylvania County, Transylvania County Library, First Bank, First Citizens Bank, Self Help Credit Union and Sharing House.

Other participating partners include Meridian Behavioral Health Services, The Mediation Center, and Wells Fargo.

“Financial literacy is extremely important to the future of our area. I’m grateful that Wells Fargo is making sure United Way has the funding to bring Families & Money directly to the residents of Transylvania County,” said David White, Chief Executive Officer of Western Carolina Community Action.
