Eat Local Shop Local for United Way

Release Date: 06/110/19

United Way of Transylvania County Board Member Erik Emaus (center) and United Way staff members show off the new Eat Local Shop Local yard signs for the event this Saturday. Staff members include (l-r) Saunders Grommesh, Colin Kirkman, Louis Negrón, and Hammond George.

Eat Local Shop Local, United Way of Transylvania County’s annual focus on keeping things local and giving through community, happens this Saturday, June 15. Participating ‘Eat Local Shop Local’ businesses pledge to donate a portion of Saturday’s sales to United Way of Transylvania County (UWTC) for local programs.

As of this release, 62 businesses are signed up for Eat Local Shop Local.

Businesses in Brevard, Cedar Mountain, Lake Toxaway, Pisgah Forest, and Rosman have signed up to help United Way of Transylvania County fund local programs that help their neighbors throughout the county.

Look for a list of participating businesses on UWTC’s website, on social media sites, and in an ad in The Transylvania Times. On Saturday, look for window flyers and outdoor “yard signs” with the new Eat Local Shop Local logo, featuring a “Best Dads” theme.

“This Father’s Day weekend, families can treat and honor dads with gifts and meals that help fund important local services. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it’s a great way to support our community,” said Saunders Grommesh, Resource Development Director for United Way of Transylvania County.

“Supporting Eat Local Shop Local businesses will benefit those businesses, boost our entire local economy, and help our neighbors in need. It’s a sustainable cycle of mutual support,” suggested Dick Benson, Resource Development Committee Chair for UWTC.
