Eat Local Shop Local 2018 Posts Record Numbers

Maureen Sieber, United Way of Transylvania County Board Member and Lily T’s Clothing Company Manager, packs up some of the ‘yard signs’ that will be used again during next year’s Eat Local Shop Local event.

Eat Local Shop Local, United Way of Transylvania County’s annual fund-raiser focusing on keeping things local, raised $8,520.66 through the 2018 event. Participating merchants pledged to donate 10 percent of sales on May 12 to United Way of Transylvania County.

“We’re thrilled that our Eat Local Shop Local partners and their customers are helping United Way put the Early Childhood Education Mobile Unit on the road and continue providing VolunteerTransylvania.org, and NC2-1-1 to the community,” commented United Way Board Member Maureen Sieber.

This year, a record number of 54 businesses, including locations in Brevard, Cedar Mountain, Lake Toxaway, and Rosman, participated in the event.

“I’m proud that my staff and I can help United Way help our county neighbors. Eat Local Shop Local is a great way for customers to help us support the community,” said Lucia Gerdes, owner of Cedar Mountain Café.

A complete list of participating merchants is available under the “Partners” menu at www.unitedwaytransylvania.org. The Eat Local Shop Local page features clickable links leading directly to each business partner’s internet information.

“We’re grateful for the time, talents and treasures donated to help United Way of Transylvania County empower our neighbors. Our community is extremely lucky to have so many businesses and individuals working together to support each other,” said Saunders Grommesh, Resource Development Director for United Way.
