Michael and Skinner and NyLeiyah share reading time on the front porch of Western Carolina Community Action.
United Way of Transylvania County (UWTC) and community partners will give a FREE bag of books to up to 300 children ages 0-5 during the Early Childhood Book Shower Saturday, July 29, at the Transylvania County Library. Volunteers will process and package the books and tips on reading with children from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. during Family Splash Day at the library.
“Early reading is crucial to early childhood education and development…The community can join in and help make the Early Childhood New Book Shower and Family Splash Day a big success…These events bring families together to share in fun and learning,” explained Erin Drew, Executive Director of The Family Place of Transylvania County, a United Way funded partner.
“We’ve had a great response from some very generous people. At last count, we need about 300 more new books to meet our goal of giving away 900 books, and I think our community can meet that goal in the next 2 weeks,” said Hammond George, Publicity Director for UWTC.
