THE BREAD OF LIFE

The mission of the Bread of Life is to provide food (hot meals) to any County resident who asks for assistance. Bread of Life provides nutritious (fruit, green salad, vegetables, starch, meat entree and dessert) hot meals four days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) their  facility at 248 South Caldwell Street, Brevard.  Some meals are eaten in: most are taken out.  Bread of Life also delivers meals to around 40 clients who do not have transportation or are not ambulatory.  There is no financial requirements.  Bread of Life serves County residents who are in need and ask for services.

Their mission is to serve others from all socioeconomic backgrounds by helping instill values in young people and adults, and in other ways help to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetimes in achieving their full potential.

CENTER FOR DIALOGUE

The Center for Dialogue provides free, confidential mediation services for the resolution of interpersonal disputes. Mediators help parties define possible solutions and work toward a mutually acceptable agreement. Referrals come from agencies such as courts, law enforcement, schools, businesses, churches, and the community at large.

A division of Transylvania Community Hospital, Home Care provides comprehensive home-based health care services to residents of Transylvania County and surrounding areas. They offer Home Health Services and Personal Care Services (skilled nursing, therapy and nursing aide care); Community Bereavement Program and Lifeline (personal emergency response system).

Providing Adult Day Care/Day Health Care
The goal of Koala, Inc. is simply to provide an adult day care center in Transylvania County. The center operates on the social model for adults needing supervised care during the day.  Keeping Older Adults Living Abundantly was established
to provide a source of assistance and activity for older citizens and to provide a needed respite for care givers, offering them the opportunity to remain in the work force, or simple to be relieved of the time consuming demands of caring for older adults.

Manna Food Bank provides food to the needy by soliciting and judiciously distributing usable surplus and non-saleable food to not-for-profit agencies serving the ill, the needy, the elderly, the disabled, the mentally ill, the newly unemployed, the working poor, and the homeless in Western North Carolina. They work to remove the barrier of hunger, the most basic barrier to the achievement of human potential. The goal of the food bank is to create hunger-free communities by engaging, educating, and empowering the Community.

This agency's mission is to enhance the wellness and integration of the Hispanic Community by promoting education, enhancing multicultural understanding, being an advocate for justice, developing Hispanic leadership and encouraging civic participation.

 

Western Carolina Community Action

WCCA offers basic financial workshops to help low income and disabled families become more self sufficient. Case management is used to support families to realize long term goals of homeownership, college education and training, and small business development.

NEIGHBORS IN MINISTRY. INC.

Neighbors in Ministry, Inc. (NIM) is an ecumenical outreach organization working in the areas of education health and racial reconciliation.  Volunteers from churches and civic organizations collaborate to operate the "Rise & Shine After School Enrichment Program" for K-5
students who live in Southwest Brevard.  Referrals come from parents and teachers.  NIM also operates "Summer Adventure", a day camp for children of working parents who cannot afford conventional childcare.

PLS is an independent, community-based non-profit law firm dedicated to improving lives for low-income people. By working to ensure that the most vulnerable members of our communities have access to the justice system and receive due process under the law, PLS helps thousands each year escape situations of abuse and neglect, avoid homelessness, access medical care and meet other basic needs. Additionally, advocacy, policy work, and community collaborations have long been part of PLS’ mission..

Supplemental Lab - Supplies in-depth, costly lab testing for early detection and intervention of more complex medical problems.  Pharmaceuticals - Collaborates with three local pharmacies to give individuals in need more costly prescription drugs free of charge.

 The youth association provides recreational and educational opportunities in many areas, in order to aid young people in occupying their time outside of school hours in wholesome activities and to guide them in choosing hobbies
or careers. Programs include coaching, instruction, and/or equipment for activities of interest to Transylvania youth ages 5 to 19.
