Every child deserves a place to call home.
“Angela” and her sons ages 3 and 4 spent last summer living in their car. Angela was wrongfully evicted from her apartment and then denied public housing. She had no where to go.
“We slept in my car. I had no other choice. My car wouldn’t make it all the way to the shelter in Asheville. I tried not to let my kids see how scared I was. It was summer but to be safe we didn’t roll down the car windows. It was too hot to sleep. The boys kept asking me when we’d have a home”
Pisgah Legal Services appealed the denial and helped the family move out of their car and into an apartment. “Angela” can now focus on her dream of becoming a physical therapy assistant and her boys are thrilled to have a place to live.
Homelessness has profound, negative effects on children, impacting their health and an ability to learn.
