THE BREAD OF LIFE

The mission of the Bread of Life is to provide food (hot meals) to any County resident who asks for assistance. Bread of Life provides a nutritious (fruit, green salad, vegetables, starch, meat entree and dessert) hot meal five days per week (Monday - Friday) at 248 South Caldwell Street, Brevard.  Some meals are eaten in - many are taken out.  Bread of Life also delivers meals to clients who do not have transportation or are not ambulatory. There are no financial requirements.  Bread of Life serves County residents who are in need and ask for services. breadoflifetc.org

CENTER FOR DIALOGUE

“The Center for Dialogue is the only community supported mediation center in Transylvania County providing confidential mediation, facilitation and training services focused on conflict resolution and human relationship skills.  Adult and youth clients are served by fifty well trained volunteers with program oversight by  three professional staff. 
Referrals come from agencies such as the District Court, law enforcement, schools, businesses, churches, and the community at large.  Individuals may access services independent of agencies.  Fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income,  but no one is turned away for inability to pay.”

The goal of Koala, Inc. is simply to provide an adult day care center in Transylvania County. The center operates on the social model for adults needing supervised care during the day.  Keeping Older Adults Living Abundantly was established to provide a source of assistance and activity for older citizens and to provide a needed respite for care givers, offering them the opportunity to remain in the work force, or simple to be relieved of the time consuming demands of caring for older adults.

Western Carolina Community Action

WCCA offers a Self Sufficiency program to help low income individuals and families realize long term goals of homeownership, education/ training, and small business development. Case management is used as a tool to support clients to build assets and overcome barriers that keep them from moving forward. An array of financial classes is available to adults from basic budgeting to homeownership. Financial workshops to help students identify “wants” and “needs”  are done for kids  in the first and sixth grades.   The idea is to help adults and students develop the habit of thoughtful decision- making as they continue making choices every day as consumers, savers, and investors.

NEIGHBORS IN MINISTRY. INC.

Neighbors in Ministry, Inc. (NIM) is an ecumenical outreach organization working in the areas of education health and racial reconciliation.  Volunteers from churches and civic organizations collaborate to operate the "Rise & Shine After School Enrichment Program" for K-5 students who live in Southwest Brevard.  Referrals come from parents and teachers.  NIM also operates "Summer Adventure", a day camp for children of working parents who cannot afford conventional childcare.

 The youth association provides recreational and educational opportunities in many areas, in order to aid young people in occupying their time outside of school hours in wholesome activities and to guide them in choosing hobbies or careers. Programs include coaching, instruction, and/or equipment for activities of interest to Transylvania youth ages 5 to 19.

The American Red cross is addressing the challenge of people without financial means needing medical equipment by lending them these supplies . Medical equipment is available to members of the community free of charge and can be borrowed as long as its needed.  We currently have walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, shower chairs, etc...In the last 3 years we have served over 100 community members needing to borrow medical equipment. Our office is open M-F 9:00am-5:00pm and volunteer office staff have been trained on how to check in and out the equipment. You can also donate un needed equipment and we can provide and in-kind donation form for tax purposes.
